“I’ve had a friend whose experienced two abortions,” Joy Yates, a participant of the march, said. “Just to see the devastation over the course of her life from a young woman in her 20’s who had an abortion to now, it has just been heartbreaking to see the loss that she feels.”

This weekend pro-life women, men, and families will be traveling from all over the state to attend the 2017 Texas Rally for Life on the south steps of the Texas Capitol in Austin. According to the event website, www.TexasRallyforLife.org, more than 57 million unborn children have been aborted since that 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision. A schedule of the time of the event, and where to meet-up to march to the Texas Capitol, is set-out on the website. The rally will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 on the south side of the capital building.

The dark money issue came up briefly when Joe Pojman, executive director of the anti-abortion group Texas Alliance for Life, urged legislators to require the disclosure of anonymous donors. “Some of these elections are decided by 30 votes or fewer. It makes a big difference,” Pojman said. “Expenditures are reported, but the donors are not. That’s a lack of transparency. That undermines confidence in the election process and in the elected officials who benefit from those ads.”

Texas Alliance for Life’s executive director Joe Pojman told me the Obama administration’s rules barring states from directing tax dollars away from an entity based on whether it performs abortions are flawed. “Hopefully under the Trump administration, that will be rectified,” he said. “In the meantime, it’s very clear that Texas should be able to exclude providers who violate state and federal laws.”
